Visiting the Grand Canyon
If you have visited the Grand Canyon, you may have learned that it stretches a distance more than 277 miles and can have a depth of one mile in some spots. The creation of the Grand Canyon is a very interesting process because the formation it took for this canyon to form was created from the deposits of the warm seas and low marshes that settled in this area. Other deposits that entered this area came from the desert. To shape the Grand Canyon, this area had to experience transformations and deposits from deserts, the sea, glaciers and volcanoes.
The areas of the Grand Canyon that lie to the surface were formed over 65 million years ago. This area has experienced many improvements in the Colorado Plateau due to underwater peaks. Annually, the Grand Canyon is visited by more than 5 million people each year. What draws these many visitors to the Grand Canyon each year is the amazing views and the beautiful coloration of the canyon. This area is also a great place for the sporting and the adventurous type that are drawn to what this area has to offer.
