If you are looking for a holiday with a bit of a twist then skiing in France might be the perfect vacation for you and your family. There are some clear advantages in skiing in France:

The season is longer. The whole skiing season runs from November to April in France so you have an easier time finding a time to go. Stay away from February as that is the break of French schools.

The culture is interesting. Each resort in France has its own unique character and charm. There are over 400 resorts to choose from – either a small ski chalet or large fancy resort. They have something for everyone and every budget.

They offer a vast amount of mountain ranges. The resorts cover less than twenty percent of the mountain range in the French Alps. This offers great skiing with first class lifts.

They offer package holiday deals. As skiing holidays are so popular you will be able to find lots of packages for great prices on flights, equipment rental, ski lifts, and lodging.

For skiers and snowboarders, France offers huge variety of slopes and terrains, great for any level from beginner to expert.

France also excels in resorts. They are very functional for skiing and you can even ski to your door.

Even though Crete is an island, it offers not only snow capped mountains but also olive trees on rolling hills. Of all the islands in Europe, Crete has the most endemic plants and a large mix of tourist resorts. Crete holidays will give you remote settlements, small fishing villages and cities like Heraklion and Chania. Both of these cities have had inhabitants for nearly eight thousand years. This island offers something for everyone, whether you are looking for a peaceful seaside village, the sun and sea or to explore the traditions and the cultures.

You can reach Crete in many ways. There are charter flights from Europe and there are many to choose from April through October. Most scheduled flights that are international will go through Athens which is a large and congested city. In the summer, the air pollution is at a high level but you will find in Athens, superb museums and archaeological sites. Greece holidays can take you from Athens to Crete by either a ferryboat or by plane as both will leave from Piraeus. There is a new airport in Athens and public transportation offers connections all around the city and to the port of Piraeus.

If you choose to ride the ferryboat, the ships leave each evening around eight and arrive early in the morning between five and six. These are modern ships and will certainly cost you less than a flight and are most romantic if you are looking for that option. You might want to avoid weekends as there can be crowds and holidays too can draw a crowd. It is possible to get from Greece to Italy as there are a few shipping companies. There is the SuperFast Ferries that can make the trip the quickest but will cost you more. It is advised that you book your passage in advance during the hectic summer season. Getting to Greece by land has stopped altogether since the disintegration of Yugoslavia. If you are by car or bike, take the ferry from Italy. Once on Crete, you will find the airport of Heraklion about 4 km from the center of the city. There is a bus service that can take you to the city or you can take a taxi as well. The airport has a few terminals and the buses leave each hour during the day. The trip to Chania will take two and a half hours and after 8pm the buses do not run. If you arrive at night you can only take a taxi. This trip you might want to share with someone as it will cost about 90 Euro to get to Chania.

Travelling in Europe used to be looked at as something expensive. And while that is still true for the more western countries, you’ll find that Eastern Europe is a cheap place to visit. And you’ll find cheap travel deals when going to any of those countries also, as low-cost carriers seeded in the Czech Republic and Hungary, among others, offer amazing prices.

I know the image some people have of Eastern Europe is not the best. Some people think of that area as being somewhat lost in time, a prejudice that still lingers from when the Soviet Union was still a super power. But those times are long gone and many Eastern European countries have definitely caught up with the rest of Europe and are now delightful places to visit.

If it’s still a bit complicated to have a good time in former Yugoslavia, because of the aftermath of the war, countries like Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic are wonderful, full of history and with a rich culture, and have started devoting a lot of their effort into tourism. Their capitals, especially Prague and Budapest, are among the most beautiful in the World and are some of the fastest growing capitals in terms of tourism in the last years.

The Museum of Art History – Kunsthistorisches Museum – in Vienna is considered one of the top Museums in the World.

Placed in the center of Vienna, right in Ringstrasse, the Museum is an architectural wonder on its own, with its beautiful front and octagonal dome. Built as a twin of the Natural History Museum, placed right opposite from it, it’s part of one of the most beautiful architectural landscapes of a town full of architectural beauty.

It’s housed one of the best art collections in the world since its inauguration in 1891, the collection belonging to the Austrian Emperors, one of the oldest, richest and most powerful monarchies in Europe at that time. It’ll be well worth the trip and the ticket – unless you ‘re lucky to get one of the free days or a free showing of one of their collections. It’s also incredibly easy to get there, as it’s a mere 5 minute walk from the heart of the town. It can be the crowning jewel of an art aficionado’s trip to Vienna, but be sure to book your flight early enough as flights to Vienna tend to sell out quickly around Spring and Summer.

This station is only a few minutes from the Schiphol Airport, so if you are traveling through this city on your way to the airport, it is an easy trip. If you are staying in Amsterdam then you must choose from all the Amsterdam hotels that are offered.
One of the hotels that is near the central train station is the Hotel Prins Hendrik Amsterdam which has a three star rating. Within walking distance of this hotel is the Anne Frank house, many restaurants and pubs and the Royal Palace.
Parked around the train station are thousands of bicycles which many people use to get around. This is a flat area and heavily populated so a bicycle ride can help prevent pollution and also saves space. Bike rentals are everywhere and can be used to see the sites of Amsterdam as you can then stop where ever you want and enjoy the experience that Amsterdam offers. If you are the adventurist, then you may enjoy riding around town. There is also a universal ticket for all public transportation that you can use when your legs give out from all the bike riding.

There are other in the area of course but this one is the closest to the terminal and on Barcelona’s famous street, La Rambla, there are other hotels available.
The Grand Marina Hotel is just a fifteen minute walk for the southern most end of the Ramblas and it is here you will find the memorial to Christopher Columbus. This is a safe place to walk during daylight hours but after sunset you would be better off with a taxi ride.
Your stay at the Grand Marina Hotel will put you in the center of the city but without the noise of typical city centers. Because of this you will enjoy a good night sleep which is so important when you have a busy day ahead of you. Near this hotel there are not bars, clubs or restaurants but a short five minute cab ride will take you to an area where you can chose form many places to eat and drink. You will notice metal sculptures and palm trees just behind this hotel.

There is a commonly known phrase: whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. This seems to apply especially to vacations. From weather canceling your flight, to traffic and crowds, you will always run into a hiccup on your holiday that you couldn’t ever plan for. Here are some ideas on how to make the best of the situation, even if you couldn’t avoid it.

If the weather is keeping you indoors, the right choice of hotels can make this a little more livable for you. For example, if you planned a romantic get away in Paris, you can find plenty of Paris Hotels that will have a variety of facilities and services you’ll crave on those bad weather days. You can choose a hotel with a spa, and schedule a massage or some treatments for you and your significant other. If you are traveling with your family, odds are the kids will be anxious after being couped up in the room all day. Choose a hotel with a pool, that way if the day is too hot for walking around sight seeing, the kids will be entertained. There are also game rooms, gyms, and recreational spaces available in most hotels. These are great to have as a Plan B for the unforeseen.

Whereas package holidays might take care of everything for you, including all of your travel arrangements, they also force you into a strict, rigid, set plan of what your holiday will be like, governed entirely by your tour operator. Making your own decisions regarding your trip can leave you much, much happier, as long as you’re sure to properly plan before hand, and ensure that you know what you’re getting yourself into.

Accommodation, activities, weather and so on are not normally things that people overlook, but travel once you’re there is left until the last minute more often than you’d think. It’s a real shame as well, as if you’ve decided to book a more intimate holiday, perhaps in a hotel with a loved one, then shoddy travel arrangements can really ruin the mood. Family cottage holidays don’t have the travel pre-planned either, and little Jeremy and Ron are going to drive you mad with wailing if the travel arrangements are less than satisfactory.

So what can you do to alleviate this? Well, depending on where you are you have plenty of options. From my experiences in the UK (mostly in Cornwall, in the South West), I can say that travel is easy there as long as you spend the time preparing. Train, plane, coach, or car are all available, and booking early is a possibility in all cases. Almost every service also allows you to view schedules or even book online if you want to, making the whole process as hassle-free as possible.

The train lines in the UK are generally very good, though planning for delays is for the best, especially if the worst does happen. Many smaller lines also branch of the main one, meaning that once you’ve taken the main line down to Cornwall, you can get a smaller train to near your Sennen Cove cottage, for instance.

Plane flights in the UK can get you around, but I always find it actually takes just as long as getting a train, what with check-in times, and then getting transport to and from the airport. If you can rent a car whilst you’re abroad then that’s great, but longer journeys may still be better if you utilise a bus or train.
